Changing Your Forum Display Name

You can change the name that is displayed publicly on the forum in My Settings (4th option down).

Enter your new desired name, as well as your password for security and if the name is available it will be yours.

Please note that changing your Display Name does not change your log in details. You will still use the same username/password combo to log into The Switchboards after changing your Display Name.

Members can change their Display Name twice a year (rolling 365 day year), which allows for normal changes and typo corrections.

It is recommended after changing your Display Name to add a small note to your forum signature to let other members know that you are still you, just with a different name. For example, a signature note saying "Formerly OldUsername" or "This account used to be called OldUsername but now I am NewUsername" would help fellow members identify you.

Topic Prefixes

Topic prefixes are used in select forums to visually categorize threads for members.
Topic prefixes are currently used in the Resources forum, and the Private Suppliers & Supplies forum.

When you create a new thread in either of these forums, a small dropdown option will appear right above where you normally type in the thread title. Select either "Looking For" or "Sharing" for your thread, depending on whether you are looking for a resource or sharing a resource with others.

Please see the Resources forum for examples.

Kudos (Member Reputation - "Like")

Kudos are used as an anonymous "thank you" here on The Switchboards. It is very similar to the "Like" button on Facebook - it lets other users know that someone likes a post.

If you like something that someone posted, click the button on that post to show your appreciation.

You can only give one Kudos point per post, but multiple people can give a Kudos point to the same post.
The number of Kudos a post has received is shown next to the plus sign.

A user's Kudos reputation can be seen in their profile and is based on the total number of points they have received across the forums.

Replying to Threads

There are a few small changes to replying to threads.

The old reply button on every post has been renamed Quote, since that's what it does. It replies directly to that specific post and quotes it. If you wish to reply to the thread in general, use the Fast Reply or Add Reply button.

A Fast Reply button has been added to each post. This button scrolls you down to the bottom of the page from wherever you are to the Fast Reply box so you can type a response.

There is a Fast Reply box at the bottom of each thread, so you can type in a reply without needing to load a new page. You just click anywhere inside this box to load the small editor so you can type.

If you want to use the full editor, you can use the Add Reply button (at the bottom, above the Fast Reply box) or you can use the "Load Full editor" button below the Fast Reply box. If you have already started typing in the Fast Reply box, and then want to switch to the full editor, your text will be saved so you don't have to retype it.

MultiQuote
This button allows you to quote multiple people at once, without posting multiple times in a row. Click this button on every post you wish to quote, then hit the Add Reply button. You will be taken to the full editor, and it will have quoted everyone you selected.

Quoting in general
When quoting a post, it is possible to remove parts of that post that you are not directly replying to. Just highlight and delete the text you are not responding to in the full editor. As long as the [ QUOTE] [ /QUOTE] tags stay intact, you can remove text from between them. This is handy if you are replying to a long post - you don't need to quote the entire thing for people to know who you are responding to.
